July is upon us! Woo hoo- Another book of the month is finished! It is time for our June book review, American Royals. This romantic comedy novel by Katharine McGee was a fun summer read!
The world is slowly starting to open back up. You might be even sneaking away for a little vacation! American Royals is a light and easy read that would be perfect to read poolside. {P.S. I previously put together a list of great vacation reads here}.
Summary
American Royals transforms America into a monarchy. Imagine what it would be like if George Washington was not the first president, but rather our nation’s first king!
The story follows heirs to the Washington throne: Beatrice, Samantha and Jefferson as they navigate college life as royals. Trying to maintain a somewhat normal schooling and social life, the siblings attend Ivy League colleges and frat parties.
Their life, however is anything but normal. Beatrice will someday soon become the nation’s first reigning queen. The husband that she chooses will become the nation’s first king consort. Her hectic palace schedule and tiara are not conducive to blending in with her peers.
Living in Beatrice’s shadow, her brother and sister struggle to find their purpose in the royal family and wonder how they can make a difference.
All three of the siblings end up in impossible relationships…and that makes this book fun! You’ll keep reading in order to keep rooting for your favorite couple to tie the knot!
Rating
This book earns 3 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Honestly, I felt the ending was a bit disappointing. I was expecting everyone to get married! The somewhat abbreviated ending may be because this is the first book in a series, but I expected a bit more closure and more happily ever afters!
Overall, I would recommend that you read this book, but be prepared to get drawn into the next book in the series: Majesty: American Royals II.
If you enjoyed American Royals, you will love these “royal” books:
