“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” -Buddy the Elf
We just love the movie “Elf”! It is simply hilarious and one the entire family can watch. I have a few friends that do an “Elf” movie night and, since my family gets a kick out of the movie, I wanted to do one too. I know my friends’ families all eat spaghetti and one even has a burping contest, but I wanted to put my own spin on the night. It really was a great time and not much work…which is my favorite. If your family loves “Elf” too, you should definitely think about making a night out of it.
First, I checked out Pinterest to get a few ideas. While there, I found these free printables. They are too cute! They were created by Just Add Confetti and you can snag them here!
I wanted us all to have Elf-themed names, so I created some name tags that I would later make into necklaces.
Then, when we were at Target that day, I picked up a few supplies to make the night a little festive. Check out what I got! Let me tell you, I was so excited to see the paper snowflake garlands. I was going to have us make some, but I couldn’t pass up the option to take this shortcut. You can grab some decor by clicking here.
That night, I let the kids do the decorating. They did a great job!
“You stink! You smell like beef and cheese, you don’t smell like Santa.” While they were decorating, I set out some themed snacks.
“We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.” I set the table using some things we had around the house and the printables from earlier.
“I passed through the seven levels of the candy cane forest, through the sea of swirly-twirly gum drops, and then I walked through the Lincoln Tunnel.”
“Congratulations! World’s best cup of coffee! Great job, everybody! It’s great to be here.” I also set up the World’s Best Cup of Coffee Bar (aka Hot Chocolate Bar) to enjoy while we watched the movie.
“Can you pass the maple syrup?” “I didn’t put it…It’s spaghetti.” Of course, we had to have spaghetti for dinner. We used our favorite recipe which you can find here.
“It’s just nice to meet another human that shares my affinity for elf culture.” During dinner, we found out what our Elf names were using elf name generators that we found online. We got a good kick out of the names and called each other them for the rest of the night. The only person that didn’t like their name was out littlest who ran out of the room crying (we have no idea why but we definitely weren’t able to contain the laughter after her dramatic exit.) So we changed her name from “Tipsy Twinkletoes” to “Cookie Twinkletoes” of which she approved.
After dinner was finished and cleaned up, we started the movie! My husband made homemade popcorn and we added gumdrops to commemorate Buddy’s travels through the sea of gum drops.
All-in-all, it was a great night and we will definitely be making this a yearly tradition!
